Artist Unveils Tapestry At Sacajawea Elementary

Washington state-based artist Cecilia Blomberg recently unveiled the tapestry she designed for Sacajawea Elementary.

Blomberg spent the past year weaving the tapestry in her Gig Harbor studio, sharing updates and photos with students throughout the process.

The 12-foot by 8-foot piece includes numerous details about Sacajawea and the school's community, from natural features and wildlife to elements of scientific work done at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the Hanford site. It will hang in the main stairwell at the school

Sacajawea staff started working three years ago to bring a specially-made art piece to the school when they applied for and received a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. The piece is intended to inspire students to be creative and learn about their community and passions.
